This 1-day course is designed for MOT site managers who are new to role and covers all the important aspects of running an MOT Centre including how to manage compliance day to day. The course is also useful for existing MOT site managers as refresher training, with the DVSA regulations changing frequently it is easy for important compliance tasks to be overlooked.
There are no eligibility requirements for those who wish to undertake the Awareness of MOT Site Management course. However, some general motor industry knowledge and experience is recommended.
Only the AEDM is required to hold a formal regulated qualification (see our Level 3 2-day course) but in many cases the AEDM is not the person overseeing the day to day running of the MOT Centre. This programme is designed to fill the skills gap between the AEDM and the MOT site manager and to develop the legislative and compliance knowledge required to manage an MOT Test Centre. The course aim is also to develop an understanding of the quality systems and audits required.
Many MOT site managers are appointed into the position in name only and are not provided with the required skills and knowledge to do the job effectively. Some MOT site managers have not come from an MOT background so have limited knowledge of the scheme and very little training is provided, this leads to noncompliance and possible action from the DVSA.
The MOT site manager role is vital to protecting the Authorised Examiner from DVSA action, their routine of site inspections and MOT tester monitoring will highlight areas of noncompliance and allow corrective measures to be installed. The DVSA do not expect everything to be perfect all the time but seeing proactive MOT site management and robust quality systems in place will improve the MOT Centre’s risk score and lead to fewer DVSA visits.
This course consists of 6 hours of guided learning and a multiple-choice exam at the end. The candidate must score 80% or more in the exam to pass the course and will be awarded with a certificate endorsed by the Skills & Education Group. The Skills & Education Group work with the DVSA to provide the MOT Tester Annual assessment and other formal Level 2 & Level 3 MOT qualifications, The MOT Club is certified to deliver all MOT qualifications.
